Description

Rubber Top Roller Chain — 08B-G2

08B-G2 rubber top chain widens the rubber contact zone across the full outer link plate — providing a broader product support platform than the G1 profile on the same 12.7mm ISO pitch base, improving stability for wider-bottomed containers and trays.

Product Overview

The G2 rubber profile on the 08B base chain increases the rubber top width to cover the full outer link plate and slightly beyond, versus the narrower centred pad of the G1 variant. This wider contact footprint provides greater stability for products with a broader base — flat-bottomed pouches, rectangular cartons, trays, and multi-pack containers — where the G1’s narrow contact width would allow tipping or rocking during conveyor acceleration and deceleration. The increased rubber surface area also distributes conveyor contact pressure across a wider product base, reducing point-loading that can leave contact marks on soft packaging materials.

The chain base remains fully ISO 08B-1 compliant — same pitch, roller diameter, inner width, and pin diameter as standard 08B roller chain. The G2 wider rubber profile does not affect the engagement geometry at the inner link-roller-sprocket interface, so standard 08B sprockets are fully compatible. The wider rubber profile slightly increases the overall chain width compared to G1, which should be accounted for in conveyor guide rail spacing and side guide positioning.

Rubber Top Profile and Material

08B-G2 chains use the same NBR/SBR rubber compound in 80 Shore A hardness as the G1 series. The wider profile is produced using a wider extrusion die during the vulcanisation process — the rubber is extruded at greater width and bonded across the full outer link plate surface simultaneously. This full-width bonding provides greater resistance to lateral peeling compared to a narrower profile, because the adhesion area is substantially larger relative to the lateral force generated when a product slides across the rubber surface during diverting or merging. Food-grade rubber compound (NSF H1 compatible) is available for G2 profiles in food contact applications — specify at time of order.

Key Performance Benefits

🤚
Non-Slip Product Control
The vulcanised rubber surface maintains positive product contact through acceleration, deceleration, and inclined conveying — applications where smooth-surface chains allow products to slip and misalign.
🔇
Vibration and Noise Damping
The rubber profile absorbs micro-impacts at sprocket engagement and at product loading points, measurably reducing conveyor noise in production environments where operator comfort and noise regulations apply.
🛡️
Surface Protection for Delicate Products
Rubber’s natural cushioning prevents surface marking on bottles, cans, glass panels, electronics, and finished consumer goods that would be scratched or dented by direct contact with bare steel chain surfaces.
⚙️
Interchangeable with Standard Chain
The base chain dimensions match the standard ISO B or ANSI A series specification for the same pitch. Rubber top chains run on standard matched sprockets without modification — no special tooth form or hardware change required.

Applications

📦
Flat-Bottom Container and Tray Conveying
Rectangular trays, multi-pack cartons, and flat-bottom pouches require a wide support base to prevent tipping. The G2 profile spans the container base width more effectively than G1, providing the lateral stability needed for high-speed packaging line transfer conveyors.
🫙
Glass Jar and Wide-Bottle Handling
Wide-diameter glass jars and flat-oval bottles have base widths that extend beyond the G1 contact zone. The G2 profile supports these container geometries without the rocking instability that occurs when only the container edge contacts the chain rubber.
🍔
Food Portion Conveying
Individually portioned food items — burger patties, cheese slices, fish portions — are conveyed between processing stations on G2 rubber top chains in food grade specification. The wider rubber surface provides gentle support without product deformation.
🔩
Component Assembly Trays
Manufacturing component trays and sub-assembly carriers are transported between workstations on G2 chains. The wide rubber surface prevents tray sliding at machine cycle transitions, ensuring accurate positioning at each assembly station.

Matching Components We Also Supply

Matched Sprockets for 08B ISO Pitch
Standard 08B ISO series sprockets in the pitch matching 08B-G2. Full range from 9 to 90 teeth in simplex and duplex bore. No special tooth form required for rubber top chains.

Rubber Top Connecting Links
Connecting links with the same rubber top profile as the main chain, maintaining a continuous and smooth conveying surface at the join point — critical for delicate product handling applications.

Replacement Rubber Top Outer Link Sets
Individual outer link plate assemblies with pre-vulcanised rubber profiles for field repair of damaged rubber sections without full chain replacement.

UHMWPE Chain Guide Profiles
Low-friction polyethylene guide rails in standard widths for rubber top chain conveyor systems. Smooth guide surface reduces lateral wear on the rubber profile edges on curved or side-loaded conveyor runs.

Customer Reviews

★★★★★

“We build portion conveying systems for meat processing plants. 08B-G2 in food-grade specification is our standard for the portioner outfeed conveyor. The wider rubber surface gives us the portion stability we need at 200 portions per minute without any tipping or rotation at the transfer to the packaging machine. Documentation package passed our customer’s HACCP audit without issues.”

★★★★★

“Switched from G1 to G2 on our flat-bottom pouch conveyor after repeated tipping problems at the top-load fill station. G2 eliminated the tipping completely. The chain quality here is better than the previous supplier — uniform rubber hardness across the batch and no delamination after 14 months of operation.”

★★★★★

“Specified 08B-G2 for component tray conveyors in our assembly line. The wider rubber surface prevents tray sliding at the stop-and-go transfer points without requiring extra side guides. Lead time was 8 days — faster than our previous supplier and within our project timeline.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 08B-G1 and 08B-G2?+
Both chains use the same ISO 08B-1 roller chain base (12.700mm pitch). The difference is in the rubber top profile width. G1 has a narrow centred rubber pad suitable for small-diameter containers and precise product positioning. G2 has a wider rubber profile spanning the full outer link plate, providing broader product support for wide-bottomed containers, trays, and flat-base packages that would be unstable on the narrower G1 surface.
Does the wider G2 profile require different sprockets?+
No — the G2 rubber profile is on the outer link plates, which do not engage the sprocket. The inner link-roller-sprocket engagement geometry is identical to standard 08B chain. Standard 08B sprockets work without modification for G2 chains.
Can 08B-G2 be used on inclined conveyors?+
Yes — the G2 profile’s wider rubber surface provides slightly better inclined conveying performance than G1 for the same product, because the larger contact area generates more friction force per unit of rubber surface compression. Practical incline limits are similar to G1: up to 20° for stable products on 80 Shore A rubber, with cleated variants recommended for steeper inclines or products with lower friction coefficients.
What cleaning chemicals are compatible with the rubber top?+
Standard NBR rubber is resistant to mild alkaline cleaning solutions (pH 8–11), which covers most food production washdown detergents. Strong acids (pH below 5), concentrated solvents, and chlorine bleach above 200 ppm can degrade NBR rubber over time. For applications with aggressive cleaning regimes, specify EPDM or neoprene rubber — both are more resistant to strong oxidising cleaners. Contact us with your cleaning chemistry for a specific material recommendation.
How is the rubber profile attached — glued or vulcanised?+
The rubber profile is vulcanised — chemically bonded to the steel link plate through a heat-and-pressure process that creates a molecular bond between the rubber and the steel substrate. This is not a glued-on pad. Vulcanised bonds do not delaminate under the cyclic flexing of normal chain operation, whereas adhesive-bonded rubber tops typically separate within a few hundred hours in continuous conveying applications. The vulcanisation bond is essentially as strong as the rubber material itself.
