Product Overview
The G2 rubber profile on the 08B base chain increases the rubber top width to cover the full outer link plate and slightly beyond, versus the narrower centred pad of the G1 variant. This wider contact footprint provides greater stability for products with a broader base — flat-bottomed pouches, rectangular cartons, trays, and multi-pack containers — where the G1’s narrow contact width would allow tipping or rocking during conveyor acceleration and deceleration. The increased rubber surface area also distributes conveyor contact pressure across a wider product base, reducing point-loading that can leave contact marks on soft packaging materials.
The chain base remains fully ISO 08B-1 compliant — same pitch, roller diameter, inner width, and pin diameter as standard 08B roller chain. The G2 wider rubber profile does not affect the engagement geometry at the inner link-roller-sprocket interface, so standard 08B sprockets are fully compatible. The wider rubber profile slightly increases the overall chain width compared to G1, which should be accounted for in conveyor guide rail spacing and side guide positioning.

08B-G2 chains use the same NBR/SBR rubber compound in 80 Shore A hardness as the G1 series. The wider profile is produced using a wider extrusion die during the vulcanisation process — the rubber is extruded at greater width and bonded across the full outer link plate surface simultaneously. This full-width bonding provides greater resistance to lateral peeling compared to a narrower profile, because the adhesion area is substantially larger relative to the lateral force generated when a product slides across the rubber surface during diverting or merging. Food-grade rubber compound (NSF H1 compatible) is available for G2 profiles in food contact applications — specify at time of order.

How is the rubber profile attached — glued or vulcanised?+
The rubber profile is vulcanised — chemically bonded to the steel link plate through a heat-and-pressure process that creates a molecular bond between the rubber and the steel substrate. This is not a glued-on pad. Vulcanised bonds do not delaminate under the cyclic flexing of normal chain operation, whereas adhesive-bonded rubber tops typically separate within a few hundred hours in continuous conveying applications. The vulcanisation bond is essentially as strong as the rubber material itself.
