Product Overview: Dual-Pitch Anti-sidebow Chain
The P9.525mm and P12.700mm pitch anti-sidebow chains serve window actuation applications where the load, stroke, and installation space requirements fall below those suited to the larger P11.5 and P12.75 pitch chains. The P9.525mm (3/8 inch pitch) chain is particularly compact — the small pitch enables a very tight minimum curve radius in the storage magazine and allows the actuator unit to be integrated into extremely narrow window frame sections without visible profile interruption. This makes it the preferred specification for premium residential window systems where aesthetic concealment of the actuation mechanism is a primary design requirement.
The P12.700mm pitch variant in the anti-sidebow series differs from P12.75: while the pitch values are very close, the tooth engagement geometry and plate dimensions are calibrated specifically for the anti-sidebow function — the pin-bushing clearances in the push plane are tighter than standard roller chain of the same pitch to maintain column rigidity during the push stroke. Standard roller chain of the same pitch cannot substitute for anti-sidebow chain in push applications because the standard pin-bushing clearances allow lateral deflection that causes the chain to buckle rather than push.

Residential and Light Commercial Applications
P9.525 chains are standard in residential skylight automation systems for pitched roof windows — the roof window actuator category dominated by brands such as Velux, Fakro, and Roto. In these installations, the chain is concealed within the window frame side profile and the actuator motor sits at the base of the frame. Opening and closing is controlled by a wall switch or remote, with limit switches stopping travel at the fully open and fully closed positions. The compact pitch allows strokes up to 350mm within a housing depth of just 20–22mm, enabling the mechanism to fit within the standard window side profile without custom frame modification.
P12.700 chains are used in slightly larger residential applications — larger pivot windows, commercial tilt-turn units up to 1.0m² panel area, and light commercial louvre systems where the push force requirement exceeds the P9.525 capacity. The wider plate and larger pin of the P12.700 chain provide approximately 65% greater push force capacity at equivalent stroke length, bridging the gap between the lightest residential actuators and the medium commercial systems served by P11.5 and P12.75 chains.
Surface Treatment for Long-Term Outdoor Performance
Both P9.525 and P12.700 anti-sidebow chains are supplied with zinc-nickel alloy surface treatment as standard. This treatment provides corrosion protection substantially beyond standard zinc electroplating — the zinc-nickel alloy has a higher corrosion potential than pure zinc and resists the temperature cycling degradation that shortens the service life of pure zinc coatings in building envelope applications. Salt spray resistance exceeds 500 hours for both sizes, meeting the corrosion resistance requirements for exterior-facing building hardware under EN 1670 Class 4 (severe outdoor exposure).
For high-end residential applications where the chain may be visible from the interior during operation, anodised aluminium outer plate facing is available in a range of architectural finishes. The aluminium facing provides a non-corrosive exterior surface that can be colour-matched to the window frame finish, making the visible portion of the chain aesthetically integrated with the window profile rather than appearing as an industrial component in a domestic setting.

Customer Reviews
“I fit a lot of motorised roof windows for residential clients and these P9.525 chains are the most reliable I have used. The zinc-nickel treatment holds up in the damp Irish climate without the early rust spots I was getting on previous chains from another supplier. Compact sizing fits our standard frame profiles without modification.”
“We manufacture our own actuator units for the French market and standardised on P9.525SBF1 for our roof window range two years ago. The dimensional consistency batch to batch is excellent — we have had zero assembly line rejects due to dimensional non-conformance since the switch. Technical data sheet is complete and matches our design specification drawings.”
“Specified P12.700SBF1 for automated tilt-turn windows across a 220-unit residential complex. The chain installation was straightforward and the actuator system has been trouble-free across the first winter. The documentation package satisfied our building consent requirements for automated building hardware without additional supplier requests.”
